My Dissertation Idea

New Challenge Thanks to God, the challenges of immersion had ended. The things I have undertaken this summer helped me prepare on my transition towards Dissertation. At this moment, I am preparing myself for the next challenge and looking up topics that motivates me. I do it through reading journals and taking notes of interesting ideas they offer as well as future works/things not yet done.  Re search Area I Pl an on Concentrating One of our professors in DIT once told us to concentrate and spend time on areas that interests us the most. He said that as much as possible, avoid things which will waste our time since it is very precious especially during Dissertation making. My ideas was so vague before the start of immersion but now, things are slowly getting clearer. The area I am considering is Semantic Web/Linked Data for Data Interoperability and Information Retrieval. Honestly, there is still a lot of ambiguity regarding this but with God’s help I’ll narrow this d

An industry experience to treasure... I am about to finish my immersion journey with my colleague, Sir Nicart. A big big thanks to all the staff that comprises PLDT South Luzon Fixed Access and Transport Operation in the Bicol Region Field Force 5 Office. In our base Our mentor, Sir Rhomar Encanto invited us to visit the Domestic Fiber Optic Network (DFON) site to check the equipment at Pasacao, Camarines Sur. We used the PLDT service pickup and arrived at the site at around 3:00 PM. On our way to DFON site He accompanied us in the secured equipment room and showed us the different types of transport equipment operating 24/7. I was amazed with the technology used in the transport operations.  Devices are interconnected and worked in harmony to achieve its goal of transporting data. Sir Rhomar allowed us to observe the checking of devices and gave us chance to ask/inquire regarding the process. PLDT DFON site at the background After minutes of obs

Learning from the Industry... We were so excited this morning. Eager to learn on what the telecommunications industry is doing, we arrive at the office on time. We hoped for the best as we waited for our mentor to come and guide us in the immersion process. Sir Bryan & me before the start of the immersion I was amazed with what I learned today. Indeed, Information & Communications Technology (ICT) is an integral part of telecommunications. He started introducing us with the functions of access gateways, routers, L2/L3 switches as well as how they separate three services: voice, data and video.  Sir Rhomar while discussing the separation of voice, data and video services He demonstrated to us how to use Network Management System (NMS) to remotely control network devices all across the country. He also showed us a web-based program used in the fault ticket management and resolution. While he discussed about the maintenance of network infra sites

Industry Immersion Part 2

The second part of my immersion journey... During my first meeting with Sir Rhomar Encanto last week, he discussed some of the operations being performed by his department called South Luzon Fixed Access and Transport Operations, a technical division of PLDT. In that meeting, he introduced me to the technical aspects of their jobs. This includes the area where they operate, the personnel's duties and functions, the physical equipment used and the network management system used in remote access of network infra deployed in the different parts of the country. He also approved one of my classmates, sir Bryan Nicart to be an intern in the same department. As Sir Rhomar informed us last week that he will be out of Bicol Region this week to attend some important matter in Batangas, I decided to stay home and look for journals that would probably help me in formulating ideas in our research paper. This time, the literature is related to the application of what I have learned at schoo

Finding an immersion company is indeed not too easy, but at last, I found one!

Industry immersion is part of our programs in Doctor in Information Technology (DIT) at TIP that should be taken by doctoral students like me before proceeding to dissertation. Before the start of the immersion, we had an orientation meeting with our dean, Dr. Rujie Medina. When one of the students who already finished having the immersion at IBM was asked to share her experiences in scouting for company and during the course of the immersion, I immediately knew that immersion is quite a challenging task. So I thought I should be ready for some difficulties that I might encounter along the way… After enrolling the subject, I immediately went back to the province since my intention was to look for a company there where I can have the immersion and of course, a company that will cater my interest in IT. But thinking over and over, I thought that I can find that company in Metro Manila. So upon the invitation of my colleague to scout for a company in Manila, I did not hesitate to
