Industry Immersion Part 3

Learning from the Industry...

We were so excited this morning. Eager to learn on what the telecommunications industry is doing, we arrive at the office on time. We hoped for the best as we waited for our mentor to come and guide us in the immersion process.

Sir Bryan & me before the start of the immersion

I was amazed with what I learned today. Indeed, Information & Communications Technology (ICT) is an integral part of telecommunications. He started introducing us with the functions of access gateways, routers, L2/L3 switches as well as how they separate three services: voice, data and video.

He demonstrated to us how to use Network Management System (NMS) to remotely control network devices all across the country. He also showed us a web-based program used in the fault ticket management and resolution. While he discussed about the maintenance of network infra sites and managing job orders based on the fault tickets that arrive in their system, a spark of idea came to me. This is all about optimization of maintenance scheduling utilizing artificial intelligence. Hoping that I could find a lot more literature regarding this research area for my reading.

We're glad that despite Sir Rhomar's busy schedule, he still finds time to do lecture and demonstration of their equipment in network configuration, monitoring, access, maintenance and troubleshooting. Hoping that the coming days will be more fruitful as we go on with our immersion and in God's will, we accomplish our goals. Hwaiting!
